Journey Of An Apprentice
A typical 4-year Gas Engineering Apprenticeship at our provider, Blackpool and The Fylde College, combines one day a week at college with practical, on the job experience alongside qualified engineers.
Apprentices gradually develop from learning the fundamentals to working independently and achieving industry recognised qualifications.
Foundations
- Health & safety, tools and materials.
- Basic plumbing and heating principles.
- Shadow experienced engineers on domestic jobs.
- Learn customer service and safe working practices.
Building Skills
- Install and maintain heating systems.
- Develop fault finding and repair techniques.
- Carry out more practical work under supervision.
- Build evidence towards apprenticeship qualifications.
Taking Responsibility
- Diagnose and repair boilers and heating systems.
- Complete more work independently while being mentored.
- Gain confidence in servicing and installations.
- Prepare for industry assessments.
Becoming A Qualified Engineer
- Refine advanced diagnostic and technical skills.
- Complete End Point Assessment and final qualifications.
- Achieve Gas Safe competency (subject to meeting all industry requirements).
- Progress into a fully qualified Domestic Gas Engineer role, ready to work independently.
